Odds and Ends

Haven't posted in a while. This past weekend was fun. We were near Poughkipse, NY for the tournament. Danny's team didn't place. No excuses, they just didn't place. It was fun though, the kids had a blast, being away for the weekend, we had fun. Friday night we had a "ladies night out" our hotel had a comedy club, so four of us went to see the show. It was nice, because most of the time, the men go out to the hotel bar to have a few drinks and we stay behind with the kids. The comedy was funny, and a treat was that the guy from Saturday Night LIve, someone said the guy that does the news on SNL, came in and did one of his comedy songs, but left the stage after that. It was kind of neat, I guess, I don't watch the program any more, used to a lot when I was in high school, the Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscipo cast. Now reality is setting in though, I am home, getting myself together, still doing laundry, and such. Yesterday, I cleaned for a guy that I have been doing it for about 3 years. He calls me when it gets to that point that he can't manage it himself. If ever though, you wanted to clean someone's house, or apartment in this case, it would be this one, the guy puts all of his little stuff away, so that it is smooth sailing through the place. No nic knacks to dust and clean, just the tops of tables, picture frames, not many, and the floors and such. Easy two hours for me. I have also been dealing with some issues for my mother, and that can be draining. On a better note though, Patrick starts his travel season this evening. It is nice that his games are going to be played at 6pm and at 830 pm on the nights that he has games. His school season is over, his in house league play is winding down, so he will have this to keep him busy through July. Danny plays all summer, Cassidy ends at the end of this month.
On a sad note, I just found out that Cassidy's teacher hasn't been rehired for next year. I am sad and disheartened by our school district, to think that they would let a teacher go who would do so much for the elementary students. I have written him a letter of recomendation so that he may use it in interviews. He has taught Cassidy so much and could teach many others in the same way. My kindergardener is reading, and was reading before the Christmas break. This is without a pre school route. She was home with us and not sent out to a nursery or pre school setting. Some of the kids who had that are struggling. I believe that this teacher made it exciting and fun for Cassidy, a great way to begin your education. He taught her not only the basics, but to love to read, and to love to put your thoughts down on paper, no matter what they are. I didn't learn that until I was in high school. She will be a lifelong reader and will be a lifelong learner as a result of this man! She can't wait to join the summer reading club at our local library, I can't wait for her to do it either.

Ok, off of my soapbox. Time for me to get going here. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Sounds like a good time was had on your trip! The comedy club sounds great, since we all need more laughter!

Too bad about the teacher not being rehired.

Great reading your post and enjoy the week!!

I understand about the teacher-not-being-rehired thing. In college terms, it's called being "tenured." Not sure the exact term for k-12 teachers. Since I've been working at Cassi's elementary school, I know a few teachers that are like that. Make sure he's applying everywhere. And, who knows, they may want to hire him at the last minute before school starts in the fall. They are like that here too.

Thanks Rachel, glad you enjoyed the post. Cathy, teachers K-12 are also "tenured" here in MY it is after 3 full years of teaching. This was his first year, full time. He had done leave replacements in the past and subbed, but that doesn't count, unfortunately. The budget for the school year has a lot to do with the hiring and excessing, but our school superintendent needs, NEEDS a raise on his over 200 thousand dollar a year salary. The raise he is asking for would hire two teachers for next year. He is applying and interviewing everywhere, even still in our district, I think he was doing first grade mock up lessons yesterday and today, because Cassidy said that Mr.____ was absent but "helping" kids a few doors down. So hope he gets the job in the district, our district would loose a great asset if he goes!

Sorry I haven't been around. The past two days our satelite service has been down about 50% of the time. It's down only when I'm trying to use it.
Glad you had a great time last weekend. Sounds like fun.
Yeah, it's only the really bad teachers they can't ever seem to fire.
If I lived alone my house would be like the guy you clean for. Nothing on the tables or probably walls for that matter. Course then I wouldn't need help cleaning. Thank for your recent visit. Take care my friend. btw yes you're welcome here in Nebraska anytime.

I had this funny feeling that I'd read this once before. And I'll be darned, I had.
Are you okay?
