My Letter to the President

I feel that things need to be said, that I may get put on a "dangerous" list somewhere, because, if it is put on to the internet, it is really out there, but freedom of speech is still my right as an American Citizen, and well, I must say my piece. As I was driving today, thoughts came to my mind, so read on if you will, or don't. Comment if you must, or don't. This is just my way of venting.

Dear Mr. President,
I saw your presentation on the television the other night. I won't call it a speech, because I feel that it wasn't. You told the American public what you WERE going TO DO. You didn't ask for our approval, yet, you wanted it, you feel that it is your way or the highway. Just as Lyndon Johnson before you, you are wrapped up in a power struggle that you can't win. You and your advisors have all but admitted this to us, the American people. The war, the blood shed, the loss of American life must stop. Iraq doesn't belong to us, it belongs to the Iraqi people. They don't fear us, they don't care if we live or die. Political affiliation doesn't mean anything to them. They have been living one way for a very long time, who are you or us or our troops to say that it has been the wrong way?
I don't condone murder, torture, or terrorism. These things have happened here on our soil, but indeed, we go elsewhere to find more.
The money that you are spending on this war could cure most types of cancer. Do you realize that at the expense of our soldiers, you are also taking money that could be alloted elsewhere to save even more lives? Why not patrol our borders with all of these soldiers? Lord knows we need to do that too. I am also not an opponent of immigration. Everyone in this country can be linked elsewhere, by a generation or two, but those links were LEGAL. Those people came here to pay their taxes and rent and not to burden our schools and taxpayers with their idea of freedom.
We, as a country, have so much to be thankful for, but you as a leader need to re think your position, you need to stop the madness. You are our commander in cheif, we are supposed to follow you, by your example. Not setting much of one are you, sir?
Look at our domestic situation, start to fix our problems here. Start helping those without medical benefits, start feeding the poor, start housing the homeless. People in our own land are starving and dying of preventable diseases.
Your concern should be subsidising medical research, job training, and the like. I don't want another military person to perish with my tax dollars. I want a cancer patient to get the expensive treatments that are available to him/her. I want someone to help a child who isn't eating tonite, with my tax dollars. I want an abused child to find a safe home, with my tax dollars.
I am in no way against military personnel, they are wonderful heroes in their own right. I praise them for the sacrifices that they make on behalf of our country. I support them in their effort to carryout the orders of their Commander in Cheif. I don't believe that the soldiers are all supporting our efforts in Iraq. They are, however, fufilling their commitment and contract with this country, without question. Please don't ever believe that I don't support their efforts to defend freedom.
I don't support or condone that you, Mr. President, have committed them to this effort in Iraq. I don't support your policies, or politics on the matter. I hope that a majority of Congress feels the same. It is time to reduce our troops in Iraq, it is time to bring those brave men and women home, to their land, to their families. It is time to channel our tax dollars elsewhere.
Sincerely,
