Time to Blog

hey to all, I'm back. I think I bored you all a little too much with that letter to the chief. Sorry, i was angry and upset, hoping to get my message out there to all who would listen. I didn't ever ever say that I didn't love where I live, I do, and I never ever meant that I don't support the PEOPLE who are doing the fighting, I do support and respect them. I just thought that I needed to say that enough was enough.

OK, that said, now back to the Miki show!

Not much going on here on the Island. The temperatures dropped, 40 degrees one day and now in the 30's and into the teens at night. Suddenly. That is what was so shocking. Let's see, the never ending cough is still in our house. Scott seems t have gotten over it, Patrick and I never had it, but Daniel and Cassidy, they have it again. Cassidy sounds a little croupy, but the humidifier works and helps at night. Daniel coughs at night, and nothing helps. Not all night, just when he first lays down. I sure hope that it gets its butt out of my house soon. Everyone says it is "going around." I have to clean the house thouroughly today, not just the spot cleaning that I do daily. The bathrooms need scrubbing, the floors need super duper vaccuuming, etc. The really big dilema is what to fix for supper. Last night, Patrick had his last JR high basketball game, away, so I went, just two towns over, not far. Dinner was of course very late as a result. I realized about 1/2 way through the game that I didn't defrost anything, so when Scott called to tell me that he was home, I shooed him off to the butcher to go get something. He came home with tonite's idea for me, Pork chops. OOPS! Now I must figure out something else for tonite. I guess that Chicken cutlets will be it, in some form. I will check my recipie box at www.campbells.com and see what is interesting to do with them. The website lets you sign up for a recipie a day, or just m-f, or even just on the weekends. You get an email and Poof, can save the recipie for future use. I have saved quite a few, so maybe that will be a great help tonite.
Daniel has to go to the library this afternoon, so that he can start his report that is due on Monday. Yesterday, he chose to tell me that he hasn't been using the library at school. AH, the water in the middle school, I truly believe that there is someting in it that makes the brain leak from the skull, only the fluid isn't noticible to the naked eye. Both boys have time management problems and really irregular habits with the work since going to that school. I have explained and explained, I cannot do the work, I cannot tell you when something is due, you must take responsibility for your own school work and projects. I can beg, nag and cajole, but I will not tell you what needs to be done to finish homework, to study for tomorrow's test, or to finish the project. If you want my help to study, I will sit with you and go over the notes, I will help you type things if you ask, I will ask you what something means in the text of your reports when you haven't finished or completely expressed a thought, but I will not NOT do it for (FOR) you.
It has been a big adjustment period for Dan, he was used to the teacher guiding him through his day, you know, "Take your textbook home for your math assignment." But now, they write the assignment on the board, you copy it into your adgenda, and you must remember that textbook.
SO, here I am at home, begging, nagging and cajoling. (Translation, asking, asking and yelling.)
Anyway, imagine it with two of them, two years apart in school. UGH! Then on the other end of the spectrum, I have Cassidy, who wants to complete all of her homework in one evening. That too is a real pain, she has until thursday to complete it each week. It is hard to do homework with the Kindergardener while dinner is boiling over on the stove. I try to sit with her after dinner and have a little quiet time to do the hw. She wants to do it at 4pm, 15 minutes after she gets off of the bus. That is a busy time and a bustling time around here, so I try like heck to get her to wait until dinner is over.
Basically, I am not complaining about my kids, they are all good hearted individuals, I am just relating what is going on on a daily basis here. It is like a comedy, a day to day comedy, because you never know what is going to hit you when that bus pulls in......
That is all for now folks, kids are rising to take showers and get it in gear for school.

No wonder why you like to get up at 4am. That seems to be the only time it's quiet at your household. Somehow, I am now sleeping better. I've only got one (and a hubby), but my house sounds like yours on most days. It gets even more hectic because I'm in 2 classes Monday-Thursday starting at 4pm. So, Cassi's homework time happens on those days when I'm not in class.

The simple fact that your kids have you participating tells me there is nothing to worry about.
I had two boys 15 years ago who were exactly like that and I worried and cajoled (threatened to within an inch of their life) and it never seemed to do any good. At that time they appeared to be a complete waste of skin.
The oldest little hoodlum called me last week to report his gross for the company he and his brother started 5 years ago was up 42%. Better than the 30 something rise of fy 2005.
Your time spent WILL pay huge dividends. Assuming you don't murder someone in the process. Keep on keepin on Mom.
Great post and well written.

Your kids sound normal to me!! I go to my nephew's and they have 2 there and it's chaos usually! But it sure makes things lively and keeps them on their toes!!

That temp drop was a shocker here when the warm temps have spoiled us so.

Keep warm and hang in there with the kids!!! The rewards are worth it in the long run (like Cliff says).

Yep, I have to agree with Cliff and Rachel. Your kids are as normal as can be. We had the same issue here. I'll never forget the night I was helping Nate do a book report that was due the next day. He hadn't even read the book. After awhile he got tired of reading so I said I would read it out loud for awhile. He fell asleep! I got hooked on the book! The report he turned in the next day got an A. I don't know how and don't want to know how.
On another note, that is a pretty neat web site.
