Hello, all in Blogland! Just a few thoughts to let you all know that I am still among the typing! HA HA! It has been a busy week here at the Casa Miki. The kiddies have been running around to friends' houses and such. We have had a couple of friends here at our house, the phone never stops ringing, and in between, we try to do a little here and there on the kitchen. I am trying to get the laundry done, as we will be traveling doen to Maryland for the holiday weekend. Daniel's baseball team is playing the "Ripken" Labor Day tournament. It should be a great experience for them, knowing that the Cal Ripken Stadiums and complex are one of the best places that anyone at any age can play baseball.
On another note, does it seem unreal that HURRICANE KATRINA happened a year ago? It still seems so unreal to me that the terrible storm blasted through the Gulf Coast that long ago. Will that region ever really recover? Lord, I hope so.
Today was my Mom's 79th birthday. We had her over for dinner, and Cassidy and I baked and iced a cake. My in laws came for dinner, my poor father in law worked today, day 7, because the company that he is working for right now needs to meet a deadline. He was really pooped, to say the least. I really didn't know what to get for my mother, she can't see, lost her sense of smell, and really doesn't need anything, except for company, so I thought that I would do something nice, and give her a good homecooked meal, and company. I try to keep her supplied with little meals, in her freezer. I cook here for us and them wrap the leftovers in microwavable containers and put them in the freezer. That way she gets suplemented from her usual fare of weight watchers, lean cuisine, etc frozen dinners. I try to call her every couple of days, and try to get there at least once a week. It is very hard for me, with the situation here and with trying to take care of my own family. I just wish that my other sisters would do more to pitch in and to help, but they say that the youngest is the one to take care of the parents. I guess that is the truth, my best friend is also the youngest, and she runs to take care of her parents whenever they need her. She is usually the one who calls the others when there is a situation that she can't handle alone.
Anyhow, that is that...enough for now, getting tired at the keyboard. There will be a Miki blackout from Friday until at least Tuesday. Hope all are well and stay well .

The youngest is the one to take care of the parents? What if the parents had said that about the kids: oh, btw, we're only taking care of the youngest. Where the heck did they ever get that idea? When my parents started to go downhill, all 3 of us took turns helping out one way or the other. Both of them are gone now...but it would be nice to have them here again.
Chyenne, I didn't mean that my sisters said that, "they" means the conventional wisdom folks. Sorry that wasn't clear, I should have made it two different sentences, OOPS! But I still wish that they (sisters) would just stop dumping it all on me, I have a lot on my plate right now! It doesn't matter, I do try my hardest to do what my mother needs and wants, even though she has come to expect it, and at times demand that I be "Johnny on the spot." That is where I would like to have the comfort to say, "Can you call so and so, they could do this for you...."
Miki, I know what you mean. I was the youngest of seven and the closest (3/4's of a mile) to my parents in many ways. I did figure out that one sister was best when it came to medical attention and another brother was best when it came to taking the folks for a little trip and so on. I wasn't afraid to call on them.
I liked the 'tone' of this post. You seem a little upbeat and that's good considering what you've been going thru.
Chocolate cake with white frosting is my favorite...In case you ever need to know that.
Good luck to the ball players!!
Cliff, we made a yellow cake with chocolate, actually double fudge choclate chip icing. My Daughter's choice. I thought that it woud be cool to have her help me, and she enjoyed it the eating part too!
