Odds and Ends

It has been a while...too long, but things heer have been busy. Between trying to finish the kitchen, and trying to live life, baseball, school supply shopping, babysitting, dog sitting, food shopping for my Mom, I haven't had time to breathe. Scott went back to work last week, it seems like forever ago, and that in it self has put a monkey wrench in the household. We are just starting to get a routine going around here. We are all greatful, and happy that he has gone back to work, it helps out around here financially, and helps Scott's mood, considerably. he was beginning to go more than a little stir crazy around here. I get it, an active man, suddenly inactive and told not to do anything!

It has been a year since his diagnosis, August 9th, to be exact, and it still doesn't seem real. He has been through Hell and has come more than halfway back...He must have another stem cell transplant, that is what has been recommended by the doctors. It reallly isn't the result that we were hoping for, we were hoping for a clean bill of health, end of story. Not in the cards for us though, I guess the BIG GUY upstairs feels that we need a little more UMPH in our lives. It really isn't for us to question, I guess. Anyway, Scott is in what is called a "partial remission." The disease is stable at this point, not moving up or down no progression, in other words. The docs seem to think that another stem cell transplant will arrest the disease and put him into a more permanent remission. So, we will do it again. Two weeks in the hospital, etc. (see previous blog entries to get the fine details) The decision has been made that we will go ahead with this, strain on us or not, because this is what is needed to get him well. It must be done by the end of October, because that is the 6 month after the initial transplant. That is the recommended time frame. So, now we wait for scheduling. The good thing about this is that he won't have to have monthly chemo treatments beforehand, no stem cell collection, only has to have a catheter placed and go in for the proceedure. That is where we are at, but it isn't a bad place, just a place in limbo.
Sorry that this isn't a great post, sorry that it isn't an insightful post, but it is a post. I have tried to blog about other things, things that are not related to Scott's Myeloma, or chemo or medical things, but I just needed to get this off of my chest, get it out, put it in writing for posterity, I guess. Next post will be a thoughtful and insightful one, maybe.

Glad to hear Scott's back to work, but sorry to learn it will be a longer journey than you had hoped, since the second transplant is necessary.

What year for you all! Thanks for sharing with us and helping us to learn from how well you have coped.

Thanks for the update...hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. If it means he will be better in the long run, then by all means it is necessary. This too shall pass.

Thank you for popping over to my blog.

I am so sorry that you and your family are going through a rough time.

We have had cancer in our family and I know where you are coming from. Your blog is for you and you can let it all out on that.

Take care and my thoughts are with you all.

I'm sorry Miki that he didn't get the clean bill of health after all he's been through. But hang in there with this! Thanks for the update!!

It's tough to hear about the medical stuff still going on after all he's been through. I hope things finally start turning around for you and your family. Take care, my friend.

I'm so sorry to hear the news but it does sound hopeful. I'm also glad to hear there won't be chemo with this. Hang in there Miki.
Hope the weather has cooled for you.

Scott has to have chemo in the hospital. An extensive round, but not the regular rounds of chemo that preclude the stem cell transplant. Thanks to all for their best wishes, we appreciate it as always!
