The Demise of the Penny
Did all of you know, out there in blogland, that there is a bill in Congress to discontinue the minting of the penny? It seems that it costs too much to mint the Lincoln headed coin. Can you imagine not using the little copper coin? I can't. If a bill comes to 23.01, do we round up to the 24 dollar mark, or round down to the 23 dollar mark? And in this world that we live in, how in the world will the cashiers know what to do? I mean, hardly any of them can make change without the machine telling them what to give, so now what? I am really saddened by this, I remember that I learned how to count change, starting with Pennies, my Mom collected "wheat" pennies, and on a rare occasion, I found steel ones from "the War." Why not just make them out of a cheaper and more plentiful material? There is a suggestion. HEY CONGRESS, ARE YOU LISTENING? Probably not!

No pennies?? They would sure be missed. That would mean cash registers everywhere would have to be re-programed so the cashier's could give you the correct change!
:)
Well all the stores and anyone who sells anything will just have to change their prices to end in $.05 increments and that will take care of it all.
I guess I had better get going and turn in all the pennies we have saved over the years. We have a waterjug full plus other containers. We did just turn in $50 worth 2 weeks ago.
I have to be honest. I take my pennies and chuck'em into a jar and when the jar's full I take'em to the store to cash in for real money. Hehe. Maybe if I horde enough of those puppies, they won't have any choice to but make some more. :)
Thus the wheels of government slowly turn - they realized the need to stop minting pennies forty years ago. I suspect it will be another forty years before it actually happens. I sure wish I had the cigar box of Indian Head pennies that my grandma had now. Ka-chink, ka-chink! :)
