Looks Like We Made It!

We took the long ride, one from Long Island to North Carolina. Going down south, it really took too long! 17 hours long, not that it seems like much to most of you, but, it really is a 10 or 11 hour ride, not 17. We hit traffic, we hit traffic, and hit traffic. But we finally made it to North Carolina, unscathed, unharmed and a little harrassed. The entire trip turned out very well, it was fun, nuts, fun and a little insane. When we said working vacation, we meant it. It was hot, one of the days was about 107 that is degrees with the heat index. The boys held up well and didn't wilt in the heat. My son, pitched a complete game, with heat not being his strong suit. Over all, the kids did well, considering that there were only two teams from our area invited to play in this tournament. The boys, our boys, placed 15th overall out of 29 teams, and 7th in the division that they were entered in.....not too shabby.
All in all, we, the parents were quite pleased with the kids' performance.
As for us, this working vacation was just that. We arrived at the hotel, waited for a couple of hours to get into the room, then went off to see my husband's grandparents. It was very nice to see them again, we haven't deen them in quite a few years. It was a pity that we didn't have a whole bunch of time to visit longer. I wished that the heat wasn't so high, that way they could have come to one or more of the ballgames. It would have thrilled Danny to death to have great Grandparents in attendance. IT just wan't in the cards, and we wouldn't have wanted any kind of health threat to be there for Scott's Grandparents. We also got to see Scott's Aunt Gail and Uncle Hoyt, they stopped by on Wed. to see us at the hotel and we went out to dinner with them also. Again, a pity to not have the time to visit for longer, next time we will have more time.....On the way home we stopped to visit with Scott's grandmother in Virginia. That too was a nice visit, again too, too short.
We ate at a SHONEY'S, a Cracker Barrel, and a few other places in between. We also did breakfast in a Waffle House. We love Waffle house, it became a favorite, many years ago when we went to Florida for a wedding.
We celebrated our 15th anniversary in NC, on the ball field, sweating. The temperature was very similiar to the day that we got married, nostalgia. But that is it in a nutshell, the shortened version, the long version, well, you just had to be there for most of it!
