Weekends

We had a very busy weekend, folks. It all started on Friday, we went to see my nephew in the hospital, he looked like he was ok mentally, but like he had lost a considerable amount of weight. We haven't heard anything else since then, but possibly tomorrow, he could come home. That would be great! So right after that, my in laws invited us to go have a bite to eat at a local diner. The only problem was that we were pressed for time. Patrick was attending a dance at his middle school, and it was ending at 9pm. The service at the diner is efficient, very efficient, but the food was comming out too slowly, in fact, I packed up most of my dinner(Greek Salad) and we had to run, leaving my in laws with a big and hearty thank you as we ran out the door.
Saturday was really no better. Scott was asked, by the director of training, to "run" a Saturday. Scott volunteers at his union's apprenticeship training facility, one Saturday a month, and it is good for him, passing along the trade, being seen etc. Well, this was a make up Saturday, to allow the students to make up one of their missed practical training days. So, off he goes at 6:15 am. No big deal, except, Daniel has a game at 8am, and another at 10 am, same place. We, as a team, have to be there at 7am. So off to the field we go, cooler packed, snack bag packed, crayons and coloring books in hand for Cassidy. Patrick had a game at 2pm. We had about an hour and a half in between. Scott met us at about 330 at the field. Besides that it was his(Scott's) birthday! I still had a cake to make. We, the grown ups, never really celebrate our days, the kids get the choice of their dinner and have a small celebration, usually coffee and cake, with the grandparents and the uncles and aunts. BUT, and this is a big but, this is a milestone for Scott, he turned 40 on Saturday. Unbeknownst to him, there was a suprise party planned for Sunday evening, in his honor. SO, I baked a cake, nothing special, yellow, with chocolate icing. My oven is working on its last leg, so it took an hour and a half for a 40 minute cake. WHATEVER! I soon will have a new stove/oven so it really doesn't matter. Anyhow, that all said and done, the next day, Sunday, we have to have Daniel at the field again for a game at 4pm. The we are "going out to dinner" with his parents. But first, his Dad comes over to do more with the electric in the new part of the kitchen. Daniel's team "run ruled" the oposing team, thank goodness, and we were out of there with about an hour to spare before we were scheduled for "dinner."
The party was great, he was suprised, and really enjoyed himself. He was able to see folks that he hadn't seen in a while, his few friends and new friends too. It really made sense to invite the folks that I did, they are all a big part of his life, and were there to celebrate the fact that he is still here. Don't worry, after the "official" visit to the Myeloma doc, we are going to plan a big BBQ in the back yard, a cookout for those of you not from Long Island, and we will party into the wee hours of the morning, with much carrying on and insanity! But Sunday was about being 40, relfecting on how wonderful it is to be here, and boy did he reflect! He indulged a little too much in the drink, but I believe he was entitled, he hasn't had the opportunity to let loose in almost 9 months. I was so happy tha t he was able to see old and new friends, and to see that he is important to us all. His family has always been there to let him know that, but now, I think that he has some tangible proof in his mind! It is nice to feel that way, and I hope that he basks in that feeling. It is a nice place to be.

Although I hate having to 'hurry up' to have fun,,,it looked like a great weekend to me. Scott is a fortunate man in soooo many ways. Be careful who you promise a party to.
