Yesterday, Scott started what is going to be his last cycle of Chemotherapy. He needs to do this one because he is off all of the oral meds and the counts need to stay low. In other words, he has to not allow the Myeloma cells to grow. The actual harvest date is now set, Feb.21-24th. Transplant should be soon after. That being said, we are sitting in the "nurse's lounge" (actually the chemo area) and they have music going. At times the tracks that have been selected aren't "our" music, actually, being "rock" fans, they never are. Yesterday, though, they had a soul, kind of funky Mowtown mix going. Now, I am a fan of all Mowtown. My sister's were older, way, than me and I listened to their music with them, so I know Mowtown songs. I especiall y get warm and fuzzy to the Supremes, and love to "Mash Potato." One song though, that sticks out in my mind, always, brings goose bumps, and as I like to say, is a song that I feel right in the souls of my feet, is "Natural Woman," by Aretha Franklin. Lo and Behold, yesterday, it is piped in over the speaker system in the chemo area! Usually, this song gets me in a very emotional state, especially when I am alone in the car, stopped at a light or stop sign. Yesterday, however, it didn't. I experienced the goose bumps and the warm fuzzy, but not the emotion. I just couldn't concentrate on my book while it was on, that is all. I always knew the words to this song, I just never realized what a deep love song it is until a few years ago, I guess that is why I am usually overcome by such strong emotions. It is one of those "sing along songs." I love those, because you feel as if you are the "STAR" when you sing along in the car, there are a few others that I can say that I know well and put into that category. "Me and Julio, down by the Schooolyard," "Horse with No Name," "Livin' on a Prayer" "RESPECT," "I got you Babe," "When a Man Loves a Woman," and last but not least, "Let's stay together." Those aren't the only ones, but you get the picture, and I seriously don't want to bore you, there are a few old old Sinatra songs, but even to list them would upset me, my Dad was a Sinatra fan, and the last time I danced with him it was to one of "Ole Blue Eyes' " songs, so sorry for those ommissions.
Tonite, I was just thinking about music, and wondering if anyone else had "Songs of a Lifetime," kind of favorites. And OH, one more, "Dream on," AEROSMITH.

What a beautiful post. It makes me feel like I know you. A lot of those songs are my favorites. Music really defines us. I feel sorry for those who don't enjoy music. When a song plays that I haven't heard for a while, it always takes me back to another time. I graduated in 68, so I'm guessing I may be nearer your sister's ages than yours. I love all of the music of that time.
There are a few of those older songs that I certainly can relate to! They do take me back when I hear one.
You and your family are still on my prayer list.
Oh, my. Too many songs to list here, I am sure. A couple that come to mind that stop me in my tracks are Dobie Gray's "Give Me The Beat" and "Arizona" by Mark Lindsay. Don't even get me started on Neil Diamond. Whew.
And, maybe all your emotions are being used up elsewhere at this time. You may be on reserve and you may be numb at this trying time in your life. Wishing you new found strength and happy music.
