He's Done with the Harvest

Scott said it sounds like he is a big red Tomato. Harvest! Anyway, on Tuesday, he was able to produce enough stem cells for tow transplants. Of course in relative terms, you onlyneed 10 million, but he did 13 million. We didn't get this word until he was already hooked up to the machine, and producing more, so we had to finish for Wednesday. Thursday he needed to go get the catheter out, to ward off infection. We don't need any of those silly little germs getting into his body before transplant. So that is that, he goes in next week for a post harvest physical, then goes in for a pre transplant physical the following week, which means that he has to sign all of the consent forms etc. on that day. Then the following week, the 13th he gets another catheter placed and the next day he gets admitted. Then he is in the hospital for 14 to 21 days. This is the end folks, and it will be nice when he comes home afterwards. The extra stem cells, in case you are wondering, will be cryogenically frozen and can be kept that way for years, they are his and his alone, not to be donated or sold for anyone else.

Hang in there folks. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
I'm glad you survived the week. I got up this morning hoping you would let us know how it went. Wow, two to three weeks in the hospital. That is awful.
I wish we were neighbors, I could bring over a casserole or do chores for you. You know, feed the sows and milk the cows. Chin up.

Glad to hear things are going according to plan. Sounds a gruelling schedule, but it will be worth it in the end.

I hope the next month passes by quickly for you and you can finally touch that rainbow at the end of your long ordeal.

I learn more about this medical marvel of stem cells from your posts. Fascinating.

Thanks for the update. I so hope all goes well. Glad he got the harvesting done. That is fascinating stuff, these medical things they can do. His stay in the hospital sounds like a long time but I'm sure it'll pass quickly. I'm praying all goes well.
As Cliff says..chin up.

It has been such a long road. I know you will breathe a sigh of relief when it is over & he comes home. I know you will also have some anxiety, but you will know that you are doing your best to defeat this cancer.
I am rooting for you & Scott!
