Another Update

Scott had chemo again last week, Tues and Thurs. He also had bloodwork too. His counts came up a little, the one that was down, the IGA protein, so the doc felt that we need to switch the regimen a little. This past round of DOXIL will be his last. Doc ordered an extra drug given on Thurs. CYTOCYN this was a one time shot of the drug. Don't fear, he is conferring with the specialists in Manhattan in Multiple Myeloma. They agreed with this course of treatment. Tomorrow he begins an oral med, THALIDOMIDE and BIAXIN. BIAXIN is an antibiotic, but when used in combo with the THALIDOMIDE it acts as a chemo agent. THALIDOMIDE is the drug that was given in the 50's and 60's to pregnant women for morning sickness and nausea. It is the drug that caused horrible birth defects, horrible. It is dispensed with great care, more secure than that of a narcotic. He will receive this for 28 straight days and contimue the VELCADE and DECODRAN with each cycle. The doc seems to think he is 75% to 80% toward remission. That is the good news that I took away from the office visit. He explained that this is not a set back, just an aggressive treatment to get the more resistant cells.

The weather here has not been as cooperative as we would like, it has been raining buckets and buckets. Yesterday was a depressive day, dark and very wet. It didn't help the mood around here at all. I am not exactly joyous, and the weather doesn't help, it compounds everything, and I am feeling weepy, don't know why, but I am.
Oh well, that is all for now, writing soon.
Thanks to Cathy who always reads, and always gives me boosts of her hugs! Thanks to Chrissy, my "neice" who wrote encouraging notes on a previous post, it helps, and helps!

I agree, this damp dark weather really doesn't help at all!
It's tough when you're right in the middle of everything and tracking every up and down as it happens.
Keep focused on the end result that we're praying for. Don't lose sight of that. No matter how many turns in the road, getting to the desired destination is what matters.

Roger, I am focused, I want this to have the GOOD end. I know it will, all of you great people are praying and praying, I truly believe that this is the supreme reason that Scott is getting better, and I believe that the power of prayer is the biggest and most important power that there is out there! Positive thinking is the second most important power, we all have these wonderful attributes, but seldom know it until we need to call on them, that is a shame. I think that folks need to believe in the power of prayer, especially in this cynical and sometimes ugly world that we live in........we have to find the good, the beauty, and GOD does show himself in those things.
Thank you for taking time out of your schedule to read my blog and to pray for Scott, we appreciate that there are great people in our town, willing to "go the extra mile" to help us through and encourage us through this rough time!

Hi Miki. Thanks for dropping by my journal. I'm sorry to hear about your husband's medical problems. I wish him and the entire family well and I'll keep you in my prayers.

You had wondered where Massena was. Well, it's about as far north as you can get in New York. We're about three hours north of Syracuse and about 10 minutes from the Canadian border.

Miki - thanks for the update. Focus on the Good News (pun intended :) ) and know that you and your dh are SO prayed for! :)

I feel the same way about these gray gloomy days. Hope a ray of sun shines on LI for you both soon!

Big HUGS, as always,
Cathy

My name is Debra Breyan and i would like to show you my personal experience with Biaxin.

I have taken for 4 days. I am 54 years old. This is a horrible drug! Don't take it! I'm sick of these new "wonder" drugs (like Levaquin, even worse than Bioxin) that just make you worse than your illness, and I'm sick of doctors who prescribe them and then don't believe you when you have unbearable side effects. It should be taken off the market.

I have experienced some of these side effects-
Abdonimal pain, gas, bloating, depression (really severe), dizziness, "spaced out," disconnected feeling, fatigue, unable to concentrate. This drug has really messed up my week--I can't get anything done, just walk around in a daze. And my sinuses & cough aren't all that much better.

I hope this information will be useful to others,
Debra Breyan
