For Ralph, Who Seemed Interested!

Ok, Ok, everyone get your shorts out of a bunch, I am not, repeat, NOT flirting with Ralph! He commented on my last post about the brown sugar cherry drops, so I am going to post the recipie! SHEEEESH! By the way, for a good read, go on over to Ralph's blog: www.homespunheadlines.blogspot.com

Brown Sugar Drops

1 cup packed brown sugar (I use dark brown, but I guess you can use light)
1/2 cup shortening
1/4 cup buttermilk or water ( I used water)
1 egg
1 3/4 cups all purpose flour or whole wheat flour ( I used all purpose)
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Light brown glaze ( I omited this, because I added the cherries)

Mix brown sugar, shortening, butter milk, and egg. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour. (If using whole wheat flour, don't refrigerate)

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Drop by rounded teaspoonful about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until almost no indentation remains when touched, 8 to 10 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet; cool. Spread cookies with light brown glaze. Makes about 3 dozen

If using self rising flour, omit baking soda and salt.

Light Brown Glaze
Heat 1/4 cup margarine or butter over medium heat until delicate brown, remove from heat. Stir in 2 cups of powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat in 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth and of desired consistency.

Chocolate Chip Cherry Drops

Stir in 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips and 1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries. omit glaze.

I didn't use the chocolate chips, because I made a double batch of chocolate chip cookies for Xmas, so I doubled the cherries. They are scrumptious!

This recipie came from: Betty Crocker's Cookie Book
It was my Mom's but you could tell she never used it, was bought in 1986, she dated all of the cookbooks that she purchased on the inside cover.

ENJOY ALL!

I just left a note on Ralph's blog - I think we should just all fill-up on cookies. ;)

Everybody run to Ralph's blog, I hear he is a master baker! The cookies look better than mine, but...I will use an excuse! I haven't baked in a long long time. I guess I will make a post about that!
Rachel, I know you are teasing, I love it when you do! Ralph, delicious looking bakied cookies! Mike, I think that I like the way you think! Cookies would be a great way to spend the dya, but OH the glucose levels we would incur! Sugar high and sugar low.
