Thinking about a friend

This morning, I opened my email, and I was happy to see a note from my friend Barbara H. She always brightens my day. Barbara and I have been friends for going on 14 years. I started working for a nameless(my choice) company that cares for and educates the developmentally disabled, in 1991. Barbara was my first "boss." Yeah, right, Barbara was my first friend there. We worked side by side in a classroom, in the day treatment, (adult school.) I never knew that I could love, hate and fear a job so much in my life. I still look bac at the twelve years that I spent in the field, fondly, and emotionally. I saw so much there, and yet enjoyed most of it. Soon after I took the job an opportunity for me to be promoted arose, an dI left Barbara's class, which had been taken over by another woman, and moved on to my own. Barbara was a rec therapy assistant at that point, so we saw each other every day, and got to work roughly the same time every day. We were the breakfast club, arriving early, sitting down and having our coffee and various breakfasts, and having good conversation. Barbara saw me through three pregnancies, three growing children, the death of my Dad, the Death of my brother, even though that came after my time at the facility. Barbara has wiped my tears, shared my joy, enjoyed my idiocy, and laughed at and with me. Heck, we changed diapers together!
I miss her physical prescence in my life, but I always know that she is a phone call or an email away.

Sometimes friends are chosen by the circumstances you find your self involved in, it is up to you how you nuture them and how you keep them in your heart.
Love, you my friends!

It is nice to have one of those kinds of friends. Mine moved too far away, I miss her badly. Nice post.

Beautiful post. I wish she still lived near you. It is agony when close friends move. Thank goodness for email and phone, even if it's not a perfect replacement. I miss that face to face so much. I'm glad you have others in your life, too, near to you in location.
